What is Psoriasis?

Typically psoriasis sufferers usually develop well defined red raised patches covered by silvery scales which form first on the scalp, behind the ears, on the back of the neck, between the shoulders, on elbows and knees or near fingernails and toenails.

Other areas of the body can also be affected including the back, the penis, the nails and even eyebrows. Individual psoriatic patches can spread and join together to affect quite a large area of the body. However, there are always psoriasis-free places where the skin looks normal, which is an important characteristic in diagnosing this condition.

The most common form of psoriasis is psoriasis vulgaris. Other forms include localized pustular psoriasis and exfoliative psoriatic dermatitis. Localized pustular psoriasis usually only appears on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hand; and instead of red, scaly patches there's usually a mass of tiny yellow blisters. With exfoliative psoriatic dermatitis the entire skin is red and covered in fine scales.

How is Psoriasis usually treated?

Psoriasis cannot be cured although symptoms may disappear for long periods. Conventional treatment is aimed at controlling the condition and ranges from simple topical treatments such as moisturizing and lubricating products and corticosteroid creams to exposure to ultraviolet light. Very severe conditions may be treated with anticancer medications.

While conventional treatments can be very effective, they can also be extremely harsh - especially in the long-term -- and many treat only the external symptoms.

What are the ingredients of Skin Dr.?

Skin Dr. contains the following ingredients in our unique herbal/homeopathic formula:

Natrium Muriaticum 6C (Nat. Mur.) is a biochemic tissue salt which helps to maintain the body's water balance and is an essential component of all living cells. This tissue salt has an excellent reputation for effectively treating eczema (dry and scaly as well as itching and weeping) as well as psoriasis and any other skin condition that is associated with blisters and watery discharge from the skin. It is also useful for the treatment of allergy rashes and all itching skin conditions, including chicken pox.

Kalium Muriaticum 6C (Kali. Mur.) acts as a blood and lymph cleanser, a waste eliminator and a natural anti-inflammatory. It is very helpful in relieving skin itching, blistering and inflammation and will also prevent skin infection caused by frequent scratching. Due to the lymph cleansing and skin soothing properties of this tissue salt, Kali. Mur. is also invaluable in the treatment of infectious childhood diseases like mumps, chicken pox, scarlet fever and measles. Additional benefits include the alleviation of conditions associated with inflammation and swelling such as arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis, prostate swelling as well as a range of other conditions.

Kalium Sulphate 6C (Kali. Sulph.) is a biochemic tissue salt that helps to distribute oxygen throughout the body and to each individual cell and keeps all cell membranes healthy. By providing essential oxygen to inflamed or infected cells, Kali. Sulph. effectively assists healing, reduces inflammation and removes infected or dead cells. This tissue salt is well-known for its ability to treat stubborn eczema and psoriasis and is equally effective in treating other skin conditions such as acne, ringworm, dandruff, herpes blisters, warts and fungal infections of the skin and helps to promote the growth of new cells. Other uses include the treatment of sinus and respiratory congestion, hot flashes and joint pains.

Galium aperine (Cleavers) is a herb which has been used in folk medicine for many centuries as a cleansing tonic and lymphatic cleanser and blood purifier. Regular use helps to expel toxins from the body and therefore assist in the treatment of chronic skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and acne. Also useful for conditions involving inflammation and swelling of glands (glandular fever, tonsillitis, mumps and prostate swelling) and for urinary problems like cystitis or urinary gravel.

Trifolium pratense (red clover) has anti-inflammatory, diuretic and antispasmodic properties and is also well known as a cleansing herb for skin complaints, including eczema and psoriasis. Its ability to improve lymph functioning and reduce lymphatic swellings helps to purify and detox the system.

Lactose: Skin Dr. is presented in small lactose tablets. The amount of lactose used is very small and is generally well tolerated even by people who are lactose intolerant.

How do I use Skin Dr.?

Adults: Slowly dissolve two tablets under the tongue in a clean mouth two to three times daily. May be used continuously without side effects.

Babies and Small Children: Dissolve 1 - 2 tablets in a little warm water or milk twice daily.

Tip: Skin Dr. may also be dissolved in warm water and dabbed or sprayed onto the skin using a 'spritzer'. Use four tablets in 250 ml water.

NB: Safety during pregnancy has not yet been established.

How long until I see results?

Degree and speed of improvement differs from individual to individual, depending on many factors.

With regular use, improvement is often noted within 3 - 5 weeks or sooner.
